KELLER: mayor, in the past few days, i've spoken with several newton actty tests who supported you for anyway your in 2009, each of whom told me they specifically asked you, when you sought their support, if you would swear off seek another job during your term, and you assured themed you, yet here you are seeking the senate job less than a third of a way into your term. how can you expect voters in the senate election to trust your word when you broke your word to them

SETTI WARREN: well, john, when i was running for mayor two years ago, i fully expected to serve out my term. what i did not expect was that scott brown would win and vote against the interests of my city, as well as cities across the commonwealth. he's voted against funding for police, teachers, and firefighters. he has vote against critical funding for affordable housing and job training, and even voted against things that would spur economic growth in this state. so we're at a crossroads right now in our country. there's so much at stake. scott brown has made the wrong decisions. i think we need a senator will who will represent the values and sentiment of this state. i have the skills set and background to do so. i have served in the navy, and at the federal level. we need the right leadership in that seat right now, and there's so much apt stake for newton and other communities if.

KELLER: with all due respect, i'm flashing on the image of a married guy who takes his marriage vows, and then a couple of years later, a beautiful blond makes eyes at him. is it okay for him to go ahead and break his marriage vows?

WARREN: john, i've been dedicated to public service my entire life. i didn't get into politics to figure out and calculate where i should run and how i should run. that's why i joined the military shortly after 9-11, and why i ran for mayor to make sure that newton got off on sound financial footing. it's the first office i ran for. i am proud of the work i've done in my home community, and i am really very concerned, as well as many other citizens across this state, around the high unemployment level, including the efforts of the federal government to stimulate and create jobs. we have a lot of work to do there. we have to bring down the cost of healthcare in this state. i have a plan to do that. encourage people to go to my website, take a look at it. we have to make sure that this country is secure, and we have to make sure we're effective and efficient in government, we spend money where it matters.

KELLER: there's no other democrat competent to take on the great satan, scott brown, other than you? because you have a prior commitment.

WARREN: well, i think i believe strongly that i understand how government affects people's lives. we've saved the city $8 million, delivered critical services, improved services in some areas. as i mentioned, i've had an opportunity to serve overseas, a year overseas as a navy intelligence specialist. the defense department, for example, we should reduce our military footprint, make sure we stop spending money on weapons systems that are antiquated and don't work, and expand and improve the healthcare bill that was passed last year.

KELLER: we have to break, but just want to clarify, you don't see any other democrat with comparable qualifications?

WARREN: look, i have a lot of respect for the other democrats in this race. i think i have a unique skill set and background that makes my case compelling.

KELLER: when we continue, we'll delve into some of the issue positions that our guest has taken. so please stay with us.
