Taiwan-based HTC is one of the world's largest providers of Windows Mobile-based smart phones. HTC's Japanese subsidiary, HTC Nippon, recently opened HTC LAND, where Japanese consumers can find out about smartphones and given an opportunity to talk to experts and other users about how they can integrate smartphones into their current lifestyle.
Yuka Sano, Senior Manager, Marketing Department, HTC Nippon Corp.:
"HTC LAND was created as a response to our customers requests for us to open a space like this, due to the fact that, in general, Japanese mobile phone users aren't really familiar with smartphones, as well as that to find software and accessories on the internet they need to go to many different websites to find them, so the first aim was to create a space where all of our customers needs can be resolved in one place. There is a conception in the Japanese market that the sales clerks who sell smart phones in retail outlets don't really know a lot about the product they are selling, so the second aim is to provide some resident experts who can answer customers queries in one place. We have the resources to do this because HTC sells a wide range of handsets worldwide, we also have a wide variety of accessories available compared to other Japanese manufacturers."
Among the accessories available at HTC LAND, many of which are usually only for sale on the internet include, a 3.5mm headphone adapter, and a bluetooth speaker system which can be directly controlled from the smartphone.
Yuka Sano, Senior Manager, Marketing Department, HTC Nippon Corp.:
"Our range of smartphones include a variety of handset styles, most Japanese handsets are flip style phones, but these smart phones are provided to give customers a range of choices, like a slide phone or this one which you can use with just one hand, or one without a keypad, or this pc-style phone. Compared with Japanese cell phones customers can choose from a variety of different forms. As for the software, in a regular cell phone there are many things included such as the Osiafu-keitai portable wallet, one seg tv, phone and email. Smart phones have all the necessary software such as of course, phone and email, but you can also use the internet in the same way as you would on a normal pc, and the software is completely customizable, so customers who want more can easily add it, so if you want to watch movies or download mp3s or add a dictionary it's all possible. Smartphones can be completely customized by the user to adapt to their lifestyle. So compared to Japanese phones that have a standard set of software, with smart phones you can have choices for external shapes and can also customise the software."
HTC Nippon will hold lectures every Saturday in February covering the advantages of using smartphones for business, travel and entertainment. HTC LAND is located in Bunkamura St, Shibuya, Tokyo, across from the Shibuya 109 building and will be open until the 1st of March.
