The 79 Dodge St Regis was one of the new R Bodied cars from Chrysler. The R Body was based on the very successful B Bodied plateform which was eliminated in 1978. This in essence replaced the Dodge Monaco. They weren't very successful. The model only lasted 2 and a half years. They were mainly used by Police Departments, Taxi Companies and Car Rental Agencies. Not many saw regular family duties. I love these cars, you will note my profile pictures is of mine. They were fraught with quality issues, broken glove box doors, door handles that snapped off, head light motors which would fail to open the head light covers. The quality of the fit and finish were in many cases awful. It was hit or miss, they were either very good or really horrendous. I guess it depended on what day of the week the car was built. The St Regis has been a model package of a number of Chryslers. There was a New Yorker St Regis in 56 and also 86. I've gone to MOPAR shows and even Chrysler and Dodge Experts ask me what this is? This car is not based on the Dodge Diplomat but it does share the Dodge Diplomat Emblems. Same hood ornament as the Diplomat, one of the only similar outside appearences.
What a beauty..love this one!!
