More info at http://jamesalliban.wordpress.com/2008/06/06/arduino-flash-range-sensor-exper...

I've been playing around with the Arduino microcontroller recently and this is my first experiment. It's a prototype for a future artwork that essentially acts as a primitive touchscreen device. I've used 2 PING))) Ultrasonic Range Sensors positioned at the top of my monitor. These measure the distance of any object placed in front of them. The Arduino board collects this data and passes it on to Flash via SerProxy.

  • stereoscopic ultrasound (stereosonic :P) ? or is it just 4 beams pointing down...

  • @pr4wn5tar I used 2 PING))) Ultrasonic Range Sensors. So I received 2 range values.

  • What kind of Data does the sensor Return?

is it a X,Y situation?! or just Proximity to screen and Closeness to the sensor?

  • It only returns one value. If my memory serves, it is the amount of centimeters the object is from the sensor.

  • Is there also a way to record these motions as animations to for instance add music to?

  • nice idea. it's certainly possible but not implemented in this project

  • Why not X+Y alligned?

  • awesome .............

  • Impressive

  • sweet :)

  • this is really cool i didn't know you could do this. wouldn't it be more effective if the sensors were more separated though?

  • We should try to collaborate on a project sometime.
