A mic shootout that will help you get an idea of how a mic can affect the sound of the whole drumset . listen to the cymbals but also the toms, kick and snare. somtimes differences are subtle so be shure you watch it in HD!

  • if we talk abouto ROOM MICS i think i will go for the AKG C414-ULS, but if you want tu put it in the kick drum we need another one...Very usefull your video!!

  • @JJhdzz glad you liked it !

  • hi, great vids thanks. i liked the tlm and dpa the best, they had the thickest and punchiest sound. did you run the tlm in omni or cardioid? what about the tlm's hpf and pad?

i'm starting to think omni's sound awesome for drum room in general after i heard an ev 365a.

  • @steelcitysi I guess Omnis sound the best in great rooms but the worse in bad rooms... here the Tlm was cardioid without any switch .

  • Can someone tell me why you need a room mic??

  • @Kevinkoch2443

    sure.

It helps bringing the real sound of the drumset and the room. It bring some extra "energy" to the sound, and sort of "glue" to make it sound more natural. when you use a lot of close miking ,you loose some of that magic, wish the room mic brings back. using a room mic can also help using less reverb in the mix, and make it easyer to mix with the other tracks.Sometimes you use just a little of that channel, sometimes you use a lot ' sometimes you end up not using it at all.

  • Im going to India for half a year in a few days and would really like to know what song and artist this is so I can take it with me. Would be very happy if you could tell:)

  • Liked the Neumann TLM-127 and the DPA the best, but as usual, I'd need to hear what they sound like in the mix.
