  • Not bad. I love this peice, I really appreciate the slower tempo, in allowing his balance to show, but phrases are tougher to say convincingly, and the slow tempo prevented some of the longer phrases.

  • The tempo is slow, almost ponderous and lethargic, but he brings out counter-melodies, other voices, since he provides the space.

  • interesting interpretation!!

  • I don't think it s a fantastic version... This study is very lyrical, passionate, lively, it needs a huge impulse to reach the second part...Here everything is freezed, anesthetized. The result is boring.

  • seems like a practice tempo to me. He's very gifted and I usually love his playing, but no this. I find this bizarre, though I am curious what his thinking was. I can't imagine Rachmaninoff intended this tempo, can you?

  • Hey, the tempo marking here is "Appassionato" and "molto marcato" When you start off disregarding that things go to pot pretty quickly.

  • check out Nicolai Lugansky. He has some Rach on youtube and also an incredibly good CD with the complete Etudes- Tableau.

  • Unique, celest

  • This is not my favorite inter. but i can def. respect this one and it is very beautiful.

  • The hugely underrated Nelson Freire gives the most convincing performance for me, full of colour, shape & musical warmth as well as the necessary bravura. Itin is in rather too reflective a mood here & the piece only just holds together thanks to his musicianship.
