With thanks to Guru Larry, here's a clip from the 80's show about the BBC Micro, where they demonstrate the then amazing concept of using your computer to send and recieve messages. Worth seeing just for the audio coupling device...

  • Reminds me of my first Modem, you had to push a button on it to change from Transmit to Receive and I think it was probably slower than this one. Used to use it to connect to various BBS.

  • I used to love those suction cup modems where you plug the phone receiver into the cup things.

    My favorite thing to do was put my head near the modem and scream, "AHHH!" Your voice would up being picked up by the modem and gibberish characters would appear on the screen.
