Dr. Richard M. Moe, MD, PhD, with Cardiovascular Consultants of Saint Lukes Mid America Heart Institute, explains why consuming enough Omega-3 fatty acids is important to a diabetic's health.

Omega-3 fatty acids have a multitude of potential benefits for the diabetic patient. Diabetic patients have an abnormal coagulation status (a tendency for clots to form) where they can make many micro clots as a part of the disease, which can result in retinography (injury to the retina), nephrology (injury to the kidneys), or neurophy (injury to the nerves). Fish oil may decrease the tendency in the body to form clots. Fish oil can help the nervous system, decrease arrhythmias, and it is very beneficial in people who are at risk for heart disease.

Diabetics are given a risk of heart disease at the same level as someone who has already suffered a heart attack.

Cardiotabs products are potentially beneficial for the diabetic patient. The fish oil and the daily vitamin that has the folic acid might be particularly beneficial while the whey protein has some evidence that it can facilitate weight reduction. Some diabetics with dyslipidemia (typically with a high LDL cholesterol) cardiotea and cosanol could be beneficial. But it is important with these that you consult a doctor who know the medical history of the patient.

  • Omega-3 from fish sources are not as molecularly compatible with the human body as Omega-3 Seal Oil which is from a mammal source which has a molecular structure far more absorbed and beneficial to humans and contains less toxins as well. Food for thought. . .
