My dear friend Dave Pash over for a curry! We met through a mutual friend in about '71 or '72 who said to Dave "Oh yeah,I know someone with a Stratocaster. He won't mind if you have a go".Dave came over and blazed up and down the neck for twenty minutes and left me rather breathless (and probably a bit hopeless). His saving grace is that he the nicest chap you could meet and was the first 'proper' guitar player to take my playing seriously. You'll find him mentioned in my "Der Tag" video. He was at school with the man who became Adam Ant and was responsible for getting us all together in a band to play their school dance in 1973. Horrible racket it was.Lol
Dave was classically trained from the age of 5 and appeared as a kid on the cover of BMG Magazine (that's Banjo,Guitar and Mandolin) studied at the Royal College of Music and even as we speak is knocking his second guitar concerto into shape. He's worked with AdamAnt again recently and with Terry Oldfield and on various tv music projects.Unfortunately he's too decent for the business and earns his daily bread in the real world and writes music for love (so far). He's had a mid '70s Strat from new but now the neck is ever so slightly banana shaped and he pretty much only plays electric guitar a couple of times a year if that.
I apologise to him for the fact that this video gives no indication at all of what a brilliant, dynamic, musical and downright funny player he is.He pretty much didn't want me to film him but he's cool with this going on my channel. It will give you an insight into why I've never worked hard at my playing over the years - it's like someone who is ten years older than you will always be ten years older whatever you do.Dave (who is one year younger than me) will always be technically a thousand miles beyond me,so from very early on my path was set - play slow, squeeze as much as possible out of every note, work on the vibrato, try for the tone......I still wish I could play like my mate Dave though.

  • We've all been there. Things just get better and the passion for real music never dies. Good to see.

  • @freakbeatno1 ...message me separately if you want me to pass a message to Dave

  • Difficult to remember after 40 years! I attempted bass (still playing) with Stuart (Ant) on vocals. Best part of school days!

  • @freakbeatno1 ....Aah! A Marylebone old boy. Were you at the school dance where we all made desperate fools of ourselves?

  • @freakbeatno1 ...I know he had a 335 out of the shop at one time around '74 but you might be thinking of his Hofner Verithin....You're right. He's a top man.

  • In 1971 Dave had a red 335 and Marshall 50 watt combo. He played like a dream. Still does. In those days he could already play almost everything- Clapton, Gallagher and Hendrix. A talented and self- effacing man

  • Thanks ever so.
