That dream for many middle class and low-income earners to own a house in Nairobi may come true after government approved the construction of a factory to manufacture buildings at a lower cost. Housing minister Soita Shitanda revealed that an Italian firm is already putting up the 800 million shillings factory in Mavoko. Housing minister Soita Shitanda has said lowering the cost of construction will ease the burden of many city dwellers who purchase land at hefty prices but are unable to construct houses because of lack of adequate funds.

  • NAROBI!

  • chat so much shit these ministers...wait 2 weeks see all his friends owning tose homes.

  • Is this the time he has realised this? Its amazing when elections are just around the corner kenyans are promised of affordable homes.I hope this happens soon.

  • @magellanmax I better live in an apartment which look 200% like a prison, than to live in a shanty in kibera. but sincerely how do u want them to look like? coz to me they r still in construction, they might look better after completion

  • @Atassi99 if this trend continues it will come 2 a point where foreigner will buy all the good house and plots. making it impossible 4 us to live in good neighborhood because we cannot compete with pirates. this is the reason why only indians live in westlands and highridge area, who knws probably 50 years frm now 90% of nairobi will be own buy somalis if this continues.

  • @daniells71 you r very right but, the big %tage of plot/house buyer r foreigner but not ordinary kenyans, they have started invading small towns like muranga. making prices 2 skyrocket.

  • Some of those apartment buildings look like prison blocks.

  • I'm assuming that most Kenyans buy houses cash upfront. People have been speculating a housing bubble burst but as long as mortgages are a small fraction of the market, prices will remain steady or keep going up.

  • @Atassi99 yeah right! the piracy money is like a needle in a haystack against the Kenyan economy. I would understand if you said it has changed a neighborhood, not the whole country

  • I dont believe all that crap from housing minister.
