Outstanding leadership and academic achievement awards were presented to Darden Second Year students at the School's annual awards ceremony September 3, 2008 during First Coffee. The Samuel Forest Hyde Memorial Fellowship, awarded by the Darden faculty, is named for a 1913 graduate of the University of Virginia who later joined the original Darden faculty. Hyde also established the first Darden scholarship to honor his son, who was killed in a plane crash in Japan. The Hyde award is presented to a student who has contributed substantially to the welfare of Darden and who exhibits exceptional career promise.
