A team of officers and ratings from Devonport-based Trafalgar Class nuclear-powered submarine HMS Triumph attended a parade and dedication service for a new memorial stone in Newton Abbot on Sunday 29th January 2006. The stone, which is part of the towns war memorial, is being dedicated to all service personnel who have lost their lives in combat since the Second World War.

This inaugural ceremony honoured the memory of Chief Technician Richard Brown who died in a crash in Iraq last year while serving with the RAF. He was from Newton Abbot where members of his family still live. All three Armed Forces will be represented at the ceremony together with members of the local British Legion.

A RAF Hercules performed a fly-past of the ceremony at 11.02am.

HMS Triumph is affiliated to Newton Abbot Town Council and is currently undergoing maintenance work at Devonport Dockyard.
