In North Korea there is no Internet. Information is controlled and rationed by the government, which feeds a carefully crafted set of lies and half-truths to its people everyday. Radios and TVs are officially fixed and can't be tuned to foreign broadcasts yet an increasing number of people are managing to keep tabs on the wider world via underground radio reception. Martyn Williams traveled to South Korea to find out the lengths people need to go to when there is no Internet.

  • Poor people of South Korea, oppressed by U.S. imperialism... one day they will see the light.

  • A lot of the images you see of North Korea (The hazy ones taken across the border) are actually of fake villages that NK has built as a sort of "We have it so good here" propaganda. The buildings don't have windows, people living in them, or real walls.

  • @Ataryui Awwwww. You pray for me, eh, do you? Thanks! Happy day, happy day when Jesus washed my sins away!

Didn't you slope heads NOT know who Jesus was until like 200 years ago?

FFS! My people got fucked with that shit long before that. I kiss you on the head and slap your face! Welcome to the religious ripoff of the west that fucked your South Korean ass. Enjoy!

  • @OzzyPatriot Why are you conflicted? you blame all korean people ?

    I pray for you.

  • Hasn't North Korea ever heard the phrase "put up or shut up"?

  • Surely South Koreans wouldnt fall for the North Korean propaganda XD

  • My father was brutalized by Korean guards in the Japanese prison camp he was confined in for 3 1/2 years, in Sumatra, during WW2.

Yet, I have a young Korean friend, today. I find him 'funny' and a very humane person. He's a Christian, and a very nice guy with a family here in Oz.

Well. You can see how conflicted I am. lol.

  • I found it a bit surprising that the South Korean feels a need to jam broadcasts from North Korea. I cannot believe that the South Korean government would imagine that its citizens might fall for the propaganda of the North Korean broadcasters.

By the way, the clips heard of North Korean radio are not a "32kbits mono" Internet stream; they were recorded from a shortwave radio. If I misinterpreted a comment meant as a joke, I apologize.

  • @TheTollundWoman And i pity you.

  • @teamfab

You envy a country where 10% of the population has starved to death since 1994?

You envy a country where 300,000 of its citizens have risked their lives to escape?

You envy a country where people are publicly executed for "crimes" like stealing scrap metal?

you envy a country where hospitals don't have electricity?

Good God. I really pity your history teacher.
