..more kills then anyone till this day, and now people can say ohh it was against the Russians, but the circumstances they flew in and a lot of russian pilots were at least as good as the british or Us, and to add to it is that Hartmann on his first mission against the USAF shot down 4 P51 Mustangs...no hard feelings guys but just to say one is so much better then the other is not the full story..

how come the Spitfire had an engine that had a carburetor , instead of fuel injection ? the 109`s had a fuel injected engine, no problem with negative G`s and the 109 could climb faster, this debate which was better will go on for ever, but what everyone forgets is that all world war two aircraft are amazing, and it was a lifestyle and a passion that is long gone...yet again i have to say that i really do appreciate people like Erich Hartmann, who had flown more combat missions and scored more.

That ejected 109 canopy nearly hit the Spitfire/Hurricane that shot it down. Dramatic!

@eus478 And you are right thats half the story. The real targets were the German bombers, not the german fighters, which you seem to have missed out. ;)

@darkmossie633 Fighter-losses from July to October '40 : 631 Hurricane's, 403 Spitfire's, 610 Bf-109's, 235 Bf-110's. But that's just half of the truth: Twice as much British fighters were shot down, but could be repaired after emergence-landings. The German numbers include planes, who weren't shot down, but run out of gas over the Channel or had start-and-landing accidents.

Ok I was act like a big two year old before and I'm sorry. For a person who's a 109 freak and a Monarchist at the same time you run into many conflicts. Geoffrey Wellum has it write and should be talking to the leaders of the world today.

Yep and another thing I can't stand is that static display of that JG 26 109 E at Duxford with it displayed as it was found crashed in the field. If the Germans had a Spitfire displayed like that I think another war might be started.

It kills me they bitch about how you can't see out in front of a 109 and here they just mention it...Clissic Spitfire bounce..LOL. If a 109 did that ..."Oh god these 109s bounce all over the place." The 109 was terrible on the ground but these Englanders are sure full of the bull shit.
