This guy is so heavenly minded he's no earthly good. The way you relieve suffering on a large scale is prosperity from work. That means Prospering in your own life so you can do something for someone else. Then pass along to someone else so they can do the same. God gives you the abilty to prosper from your work (Psalms62:12) so you can help someone else. Poverty is the cause of suffering, not the solution. He should teach people how to get where he is, not stay where they are!

Not enough emphasis can be placed upon his aside at the beginning. "Sometimes I wonder if we ARE the church of Christ." That seed of doubt is VERY telling and could be something bigger than the time allotted it. Piper pays enough attention to the church being a radical presence for good on earth. He does the talking part well, now it is up to the rest of use to do the doing part. The results will be self-proclaiming.
