My brothers and sister in laws are deaf along with a few other members of my family.
I also have friends and know others who are deaf too!
This poem is for them!
I hope you all like it and become more aware!
Becki x

This is the poem... I couldn't get captions up- I'm really dissappointed about that! But hope this helps... =)
0:12
Feel the vibration,
of the world and the nation,
of music and sounds,
except alarms or a baby crying loud.

0:23
Use equipment to notify you
of the phone, door or alarms in your home
or use a minicom instead of an actual phone.

0:35
Not hearing someone approach
Not hearing the traffic
Not hearing the voices of the ones you love most
but no everything seems so tragic.

0:45
BSL, sign language interpreters, cochlear implants, hearing aids
there is help and guidance around more today.

0:55
Communication is made through signing, texting and talking online.
Who wants to stand up and say thats not fine?

1:04
They have as much a right
to work and live their life

1:09
and to discriminate
will cause a fight.
They take their disability in their strife.

1:16
Everyone should just be aware
that some cant hear a thing
And to make fun or take advantage
just isnt fair!

1:26
Everyone will experience different levels of deafness
some will be born with it,
some have teenage selective,
or some will get it old

1:36
but you got to deal with it- no fuss!
And just get used to your moulds.

1:42
To be deaf doesnt mean dumb
many have said and thought it over time
and it certainly isnt true!

1:50
People who are deaf work the hardest and still have plenty of fun.
they are just like me and you!

  • Thank you for viewing the video.

I didn't realise it had a 'r' on the end of cochlear- I'll make sure I'll change it.

I'm not deaf but if i was I wouldn't be bothered about wearing hearing aids so I wouldn't be ashamed to have my hair tied back or anything like that!

  • I think it's great you're thinking of your relatives in this way. A couple of things... this is how you spell "cochlear" as in implants, and if you had to wer hearing aids, would you cover them with your hair, and why?
