  • does suzuki really work

  • @lady3aj I think it really depends on the teacher. We have a wonderful teacher and Suzuki has been a perfect fit for us. Sophia joined a youth orchestra when she was five and had the joy of serving as concertmistress her very first year. In addition to classical music, she loves to fiddle, create her own songs, and play pretty much anything she wants to --- just by ear. So Suzuki has been a great fit for us. We are very grateful.

  • don't use suzuki books!! ruined my ability to read music for the violin i started at her age with suzuki violin studies all the way up to my freshman year of high school now i am changing my whole way of playing and learning

  • Our Suzuki instructor actually integrates music theory and reading music very early---so my daughter, at age 5, is playing by ear wonderfully AND reading music wonderfully (including playing in a youth orchestra). I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but we're having a GREAT experience.

  • Good point! I'll edit the description.

    Thanks!

  • wow!

she is pretty amazing for a 4yr old!

  • I am a aspiring violinist, and even I couldnt play that well when i first began. Mind you, I am 14. I started playing when i was 13. Your daughter has alot of talet, anf if she enjoys playing the violin, will go far. Make absolutley certain she enjoys it though, or the effort is kind of pointless.

  • i don't even know how to play the first song but i wish i did

  • I did Suzuki since I was two. I am now awesome.

  • Wow she is so cute and inspiring for my daughters who have just started learning the violin. Thanks for sharing

  • She's gonna be famous one day. :)

  • The Suzuki DOES work. I depends on the teacher of course. All three studied the Suzuki method. After they were proficient with holding the bow and knew where the notes were, she started teaching them the notes. She would but the book in front of them and they read along. Two of the three were in orchestras all through school. My middle child, (son) is a professional violinist and writes his own music.

  • Sooo cute!!! I love her little violin! I cant belive she can play like this at 4! :D

  • @urtzk Something similar happened to myself. Suzuki books also messed up my music reading early on. Like tarabarthel says, it is important to have a teacher who integrates theory in his/her instruction. The books are neither good nor bad; it's how they are used and what they are used with.

  • haha my beginnings when i was 4 too i guess! haha man i duno where's my violin i think i need to start playing again because i kinda miss it... :) good luck girl!
