Steve Shreve is a fellow that I met in late 2007 in Jamestown, NY. At one time he was a biker and owned his own home construction company. Now he's suffering from COPD, a respiratory disease that's killing him. But Steve is an amazing guy--a few years ago he quickly learned guitar, formed a band, and made a rockin' CD. And lately he's become a painter of flowers.

I've never seen anything quite like them. Another friend here in Jamestown collects and deals outsider art and was also taken with their oddness. Stylized in the extreme and highly detailed, they are like a cross between Pennsylvania Dutch barn mandalas and psychedelic poster art of the Sixties.

Steve lives on disability in Jamestown, so to pay for his funeral and to have a little money to leave his kids he has put up some of his paintings for direct sale on eBay. Please consider buying one. Just got to eBay.com and type "Steve Shreve" into the search box.

Or if you just want to give him encouragement, you can drop him a line at 1267 E. 2nd, Apt. 4, Jamestown, NY 14701. Unfortunately he doesn't have email access.

  • Will Steve ever offer prints of these? I love them all and wish I could buy the originals but can't swing it.

    Wish him well!

  • So glad I viewed this... A story not so much mired in pathos as soaring in pathos... and close to my heart... many kudos...
