when it was running my jacobsen 2 stroke mower engine was alot better at keeping away the skeeters. my briggs here doesnt smoke nearly that bad any more. i put some rings out of another identical engine in it and its alot better now.
-
good for parties, entertaining & keep the skeeters away

ive got a lathe. i just am still in the proccess of teaching myself to use it. its a big old antique one. ive never been able to find the manufactures lable on it, but i figure it dates to the 1880's or 1890's.
-
good to see a youth are still learning practical stuff! Get a lathe too if u dont have one, makes u a very powerful person if u can use it!
-
Oh okay.
-
not a whole lot. but its only a 2.5hp engine to begin with.
-
Oh yeah that would make it hard starting. Might not have had much power either if the rings and flywheel key were bad.
-
oh the rings were shot. i switched the rings with some that werent as worn but it still needs new rings. and the flywheel key was bent i think. that threw off the timing and made it hard starting.
-
That does smoke pretty badly, must need new rings, that might also be what was causing the hard starting. Smokes more than my rally mower and that runs on two stroke fuel, even though its a four stroke.
-
oh i fixed this engine up. i put it on my antique roto tiller which had the same type engine on it. but the one on my tiller was in bad shape.
-
what the hell happened to us? why the hell cant we Americans make great stuff like we used to? nobody fixes anything anymore either they just throw it away and get another. we need to shape up as a people and stop letting the chinese build our crap. we built it better anyway.
-
@Astro29 i like them to. our country really did make alot of well made items, including engines. i also like alot of the engines made in europe. i have an english made engine but it needs work. as im sure you do, i hate this new chinese crap
-
Awesome! love briggs & stratton motors as you can tell from my vids. Im australian but still prefer USA built motors!
-
sure, your local small engine repair shop may have one or can order one for you. they are a very common carb. its called a small 2 piece flojet carb.
-
does anyone know where i can get a float for that style carb?
-
it was the flywheel key. i dragged home a 1955 rotoette rototiller model T. it has the exact same engine actually it was a month older than the engin in my vid here i think. i took the best parts out of the two engines and the parts from anothers carb to get an engine reliable enough to run my tiller without burining to much oil, it runs pretty good now and doesnt smoke as bad as it used to! it could use new rings though! i have to top off the oil from time to time!
-
hows the timeing? u say it kicks back alot and also well i saw a comment saying u put new used rings depending on what model now days is sumular u can find rings for it and cut them down to fit maybe even of a weed eater engine next time u tear it down measure how bad the gap is in the rings
-
you like that! i had nice veiws like that in my earlier videos. i took a tv / video class in my highschools tv studio and i learned how to get good shots and the point of veiw is very importent. you want a good clear shot of what the subject is and you want a nice background. but i dont always make the shots look as nice any more. my tripod isnt a fluid head like i had in school which was awsome for smooth panning shots, so i rarely use my tripod. and i got kinda lazy.
-
nice view in the video while you were starting it.
My model 8 doesn't smoke, but my 5s sure does like that! It's got like new compression so the rings are good but there is always oil in the exhaust pipe.

Mine used to smoke like a cheap cigar, try Adding 6 or 8 oz of STP oil treament to old smokey's crank case and the problem will be Solved, makes them run like new agian, easy fix............

@toddkam i wish that was true, i now have this engine on my 1955 roto ette roto tiller which i use, it needs new rings. i have tryed both lucas and stp oil addatives in it and it didnt really help a whole lot. its just begging for new rings. so i am going to pick up a new set of rings for it and hone out the cyl. i recently redid the valves on it so they are all set.
