  • Go Tammy!!! You are amazing!!! <3

  • Who can get me a copy of that performance ?

  • Congratulations to the Met for putting on a Donizetti opera, namely Anna Bolena, which is true to the composer's setting of the drama, unlike that drab boring Vienna production, virtually without sets. If opera houses think it's old fashioned to use proper settings befitting the intended period of the piece then I suggest they become redundant as they no longer serve any useful purpose, better to have a performance in a concert hall. Shame this is not a better sung evening, very uneven.

  • @TheMahouraw Oh, I had no idea I wrote someone else's name there. Silly me. I meant Gubanova, not Edita... Anyway, sorry about the confusion.

  • @erginakif

I'm sorry but Gruberova did not sing at the Met this season!

And yes, you might have lower expectations because there are some obvious flaws in Costello's singing, both on the Sept 26th and Oct 18th

  • @TheMahouraw Gruberova and Costello were replaced after the first act on October 18. I know, because I was in the audience. I also watched the September 26 show on a big screen outside the Met and thought everyone sounded great, Costello included. Maybe I have lower expectations compared to you, because I didn't notice any flows in his performance on the 26th.

  • @erginakif

Was he ill for all performances? Because listening to the radio broadcast of the premiere on Sept 26 or the Live in HD on Oct 15, there's no difference in him struggling to sing this role!

And it was Netrebko (or Meade) singing, not Gruberova.

  • I feel bad for you Don Donizzeti, that one of you sublime master pieces of art is being butcher by the russian harlot.

  • @TheMahouraw He was struggling, because he was ill. He (and Guberova) even had to be replaced for the second act only a couple days later. He later apologized on his Twitter page. Musicians are human too, you know. When a virus hits you, there's not much you can do.
