Listening to FM radio on a road trip this summer I heard this song for the first time, and was fascinated; the lyrics are so oddly specific and exotic. Turns out this is CanRock legend Tom Cochrane writing from the perspective of French symbolist Arthur Rimbaud, who inspired Bob Dylan at the peak of his songwriting. Rimbaud was a fascinating guy- torrid love affair with Paul Verlaine (refernced in You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go); when I say torrid I mean attempted murder was involved. Then a period of gun-running in north Africa, if Cochrane is to be trusted. I'm playing this a bit lower than the album - key of Bb. Std. tuning.
