Clifford Brown showed that you could play like an angel and live clean. Before he passed he was a powerful counterpoint to many of his musical peers. Clifford was a proof to Miles, Trane, Dexter and many others how the music sounded better played while straight. The only trumpet player who ever came close to his sound was Lee Morgan and drugs killed him and his talent. Beautiful sound from a beautiful man.
This is a helluva powerful case for bop. I can *hear* him pushing and pulling for new and larger limits, as if remaining tied to the simple melody just isn't necessary. Wonderful recording!
This is the kind of jazzballad I can listen to over and over again. It contains the kind of experience, feelings, beyond words, as good music always bring. Clifford Brown was a fantastic developt improvisor, played like this only 20 + old and died very young!

Amazing. and We forget sometimes that he was only on the scene for only about a handful of years.

For a moment i imagined how Brownie is playing his wonderful horn in the Heavens
(he is surely there for his clean life and great talent) and the residents of this domain are crying in delight as I am doing now...
