Some friends chased SP 4449 into Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge and broke their ball joint 4 days later they have not returned home & if you see this 4runner, please let me know where they are & Thanks for Watching
@npo64 Most of the time, the diesel will be on the head-end to provide dynamic braking and HEP. If the steamer is going up a heavy grade, then it might get a push from the diesel, otherwise probably not.
the railroads were what built the nation in the past before cars. we do have a vast network, maybe not as many miles as mid 20th century, but they are an effective means to get heavy stuff from place to place in large quantity at a decent speed, though it might not be as relied on as it was in the past but it was the way to travel for over 100 years in our nation, and the life blood of our nation in the industreal revolution time to modern america before the highway building craze before the 80s
I have seen the 4 runner. It is in a ditch after it rolled 15 times because some idiot was driving 70 mph down a dirt road and lost control. Give your friend a Darwin award nominee.
@fantazum2011 In the United States, there are 7 railroads (2 based in Canada) that make hundreds of millions of dollars every year, through some of the largest urban areas to the middle of nowhere, with flat lands to tough terrains, pulling long and short freights, all privately owned, and not by the government, but AMTRAK, the national passenger system is, with some of the world's greatest train rides in the world.
@318Captain True. But I was mostly taking into account the mainline Class 1 freight railroads miles and not taking into account the Class 2 or 3 and commuter/Light rail miles and so forth.

Is the steam locomotive doing the work or is the diesel? I thought maybe the steamer is in nuetral so it doesn't break down.
