specialization of each form exists. western culture has idolized the samurai ethos because of our myhtical and religious (same thing) stories. take for example gunfighter westerns, or hero movies. this comment is a mostly incomplete attempt to explain, as the intricaces of culture are INDEFINITELY more lenghty and colloquial.

@swoo456 considering early samurai were mainly mounted archers, that doesnt fit
not only that other mounted peoples, for example, the huns and the mongols, still had shields.
then agan, the main force WAS the mounted archer of the samurai for quite a while, but they still fought on foot when the need arose,
it still doeasnt make sense.

@elgostine Probably cuz all of their weapons are made for offense AND defense, so no one felt the need to make shields.
what kind of turtle is that shell from?

@gaybutte I have no idea - obvious "big and lives near Okinawa" goes without saying! If I remember to ask Shihan, I will post, but he may not know either.

@gaybutte Yes - he doesn't know, just a large turtle from Okinawa.

@temmy9 At their heart, most martial arts are similar in one way or another (and some in many ways!)
