LYRICS ::

(Spoken word) - stay with me god - the night is dark - the night is cold - and my little spark - of courage dies - the night is long - be with me god .. and make me strong,

I sent a letter to my baby for one last time my hands shook with the fear from writing every single line
i tell her everythings ok and with me mum a happy birthday i've not been home in so long and i hate being away
baby me and the boys we went to doomsday today now my comrades lie in sacks with unreckognisable faces
we went to clear the road and they left us a suprise and now i'm writing you this letter with bloodshot eyes
been here way too long and i lost count of the days that my country called upon me to murder and maim
so forgive me and my absence from our babies lives and pass on our love to our friends and our wives
these rivers run red and not one of them clean, mum they're turning me into a goddamn killing machine
the politicians and the stripes and the powers that be, for the sake of their greed they're taking everything from me
we just want peace we just want to go home, a hero remembered and forgotten by none
cos this is not my fight and this is not my dream to be in these boots walking through bloodied streams
picking up the peices of the mess that they made breathing in the brass and the taste of decay
i hope i make it home for christmas hope i make it through the day
as humanity is defeated on this insane crusade
these hero's are wasted in governments wars they say we can't come home until peace is restored
so who can i talk to is there anybody there why is nobody listening does anybody care
when we touched this sand we were full of life it was our only intention to preserve life
so why so many dead, and why so many lies, just bring the boys back home it's time to cut all ties

These letters back home don't fill voids in our families lives and never will
(gotta get home we've seen enough of war can somebody please tell me what we've been fighting for)
but i know you'll hold on to the dreams that we shared until our time stands still
(gotta find peace deep within ourselves can somebody please get me outta this place called hell)
they took me to war to make peace but i see that they're fighting still
(gotta get home we've seen enough of war can somebody please tell me what we've been fighting for)
and these letters back home wont pay bills raise our kids and no, we never will
(gotta find peace deep within ourselves can somebody please get me outta this place called hell)

From october the 7th back in 2001 my family lost me to this madness called afghanistan
they called us freedom fighters cos we're only the best so why today did i see my brother take one to the chest
no time to say goodbye to his family back home come here to do his duty and now his kids are alone
they're screaming fuck you bush, and fuck you blair, what comfort lies for those left with only despair
and the word down the line it was an inside job the dust settled in our mouths now we're the ones being robbed
these terrorists are sinking to the enemies levels, the martyrs the tyrants and the scum of the devil
see the children in the darkness who have not seen the light sergeant prepares for our last mission we're leaving tonight
so my family and friends my love i'm coming home soon just one more job with my second family my platoon
we just wanted peace we just want to go home, as hero's remembered and forgotten by none
cos this is not our fight and this is not our dream to be in these boots walking through bloodied streams
now we're fully prepared we head out into the night back into the darkness for one more gunfight
yeah the snipers are rife they got us all in their sights catching glimpses of the rifles in shadows of the moonlight
they're firing rounds that for noe ricochet a few of the boys are getting hit in this last melee
up in the hills with heavy loads we trod, who'd have thought hell could be this close to god
i'm sending this letter home with my best friend, the wounds i sustained were too heavy to mend
so remember me well n baby please don't vry, i tried to get home my life has been denied.
