Kinda fun Vintage MD throwback. 1st Generation (sheet metal case) Relco BFO.
NOT an adequate performer given what today's entry level machines can do, but a unique technology and still fun to play around with. Heavily advertised in Popular Mechanics in the mid/late 60's for about $150. I'll do another video comparing its performance to a contemporary $150 VLF metal detector and see how it does.
Cool video. I started hunting with a White's Buccanneer BFO machine in 1975, and found a lot of coins with it. You could set it to either scream upon finding a target, or to go silent. No discrimination at all, but it was as good as any until the Wilson-Neuman Daytona came out around 1977, the first I know of that had a discrimination control (fixed, on/off). I still use that Daytona, which actually outperforms my new Bounty Hunter and a White's 5900 Di-Pro I had.
