    The distinction between 'banner ads' which Mr. Varian yells are "BAD" at the start of his presentation and his Google search ads seems almost specious - those links at the top of my search could certainly be described as a 'banner.'

    Search for "Coke," click on paid ad (occurs just above the FREE real search result that people using a search engine require to continue using it) - you basic force Coke to pay a "lazy scroll" tax to Google. Which in turn gets past on to the consumer.
