A Tribute to Janis Martin--The Female Elvis! On the 70th
anniversary of her Hard Times Ahead - Janis Martin 1960 PALETTE PZ 5058
birth (March 27th, 1940) this show looks
back on the influential career of one of the first ladies of rock &
roll and rockabilly. Janis passed away on Labor Day Weekend of
2007 and is very much missed by rockabilly fans. Janis was
billed the 'Female Elvis' for her Rockin' style and was on the
same RCA Record Label as Elvis at the time.

  • Where has she been all my life? Can you believe that I first learned about her in January 2012.

    Sad to hear she is no longer with us.

    (she is only a few months older than I)

  • Jeez, what a pure, solid, evocative voice. It's a criminal offense that she didn't get consistently good material and musicians backing her up...and that she was promoted in such a second-rate way, as if she were the type who could only make a career riding on coattails. She could out-sing 99 percent of the singers in the 50s and 60s and deserved so much more.
