An acoustical recording of Alfred Cortot playing the Berceuse from Fauré's 'Dolly' suite on January 20, 1925. The performance was never issued on 78s, perhaps because electrical recording (ie with microphones) came into common use shortly after this record was made. Cortot never re-recorded this work, which is a great shame, as it is ideal for his unique style. The pianist was in fine form in this session, demonstrating a magnificent touch, gloriously arched phrasing, and a rhythmic lilt that pulses consistently throughout despite his flexible playing.

  • Lovely.

    First time I've heard this played by a solo-pianist. I assume it's Cortot's arrangement (?).
