Cantonese 2000+ years history, used by the first rulers of China, with so many preserved reference to old writings.

China 5000+ years history.

Mandarin was originally introduced by the Communist. To say that 1.3 billion is speaking it is actually wrong. That 1.3 billion Chinese originally don't speak Mandarin. They are forced to learn it because it was the medium in school. And also during that, it makes other mother tongue disappear

@ManjuSu We are not discussing about the West. This is about our own Chinese Culture! I speak Cantonese and I do not want this dialect to disappear like other dialects do now. If the government really wants to keep Cantonese alive for further generations then they should make Cantonese the official dialect of Guangdong!

@ManjuSu A government that makes promisses without having any accountability is like making a promise by a scorpion not to stab you. Since 1982 the Chinese governement has an obsession to so call unify China under one main dialect and that is putonghua. By doing so they are destroying their own Chinese culture. The government of China is arrogant and has no moral what so ever. They destroyed China during the cultural revolution and now they are doing it again.
