I have a whole new respect for Slash now, i think he so cool, and is obviously a huge fan of probably the most famous under-rated guitarist ever. R.I.P Rory, from a fellow Irishman

Thanks to ya Slash, the fact you appreciate Rory G — or even heard of him! — shows you're a real musician, not just some bubble gum jump up. Well done! It'll be remembered!

Oh well... Rory surely was that, and Slash surely is that too. Very tangible, very real, very anti-hollywood. And that is exactly what I can also hear in both their individual kind of playing.
When I hear such guys playing... it is like turning on my good old selfmade shortwave radio, listening to all that kind of sincere music in the middle of the night with no MTV attitudes at all.
I must be very old-fashioned, a relic form those times, that is! ;-)

well at the end of the day rory gallagher is a 1000 billion times more talented than slash and dont get me wrong slash is good but rory is killer good

just wow! forever rory

2 great guitarists...not surprised thre were awkward moments..they are both stage dominating power players but from differnt genres..it can be too much. Slash plays what he knows..Rory can play anythin he wants..but Slash is the best at what he does..not simply guitar..but GOD for OTT rock bands full of F*** YOU attitude. Rory was a soul man..blues man..best at what he did. More humble music, designed to tweak the emotions.
You cant compare Palahniuk and Orwell..dont compare Slash n Rory.

Rory a shy nervous guitar genius

who da hell wud thumb this down?prolly couple metallica fans dat hate everything
Gotta take issue with 103121... Was at the Roxy show in front of the GREAT Rory and recall vividly a major rolling of eyes exchanged by Rory and Gerry McAvoy during Slash's interminable and fumbling pentatonic flailing. Total showboating and not in a good way. Doubtless, Rory felt honoured to some degree as G-n-R were huge at that point, but the playing... yikes... I kept hoping that he'd go away and let Rory do the bizzo.

Hmm, I think if anyone felt honoured it was Slash, and interestingly when asked about it in interview Rory said that Slash had ASKED (very politely) if he could come up and jam. However Rory did have some complimentary things to say about his playing eg "He looks as if he isn't paying attention but then he'll suddenly let out a riff that'd freeze your blood"! But I have heard before that the audience weren't too impressed by Slash's contribution.

It was The Old Grey Whistle Test, a show Rory made quite a few appearances on. This one, recorded on Rory's 28th birthday, was shown again in a tribute by the BBC shortly after his death with this intro by Slash. The link just under the vid takes you to a clip from that show.
