Judge's Note:

Fear: Anakin's fear of losing the ones he loves brings him closer to the Dark Side (losing his mother twice, first after leaving her to become a Jedi and then through death and having similar dreams about his wife Padme dying). Also all these years he spend with the jedi he never felt like fully belonging to the order, because unlike them he had a family and therefore can't look at the Jedi as his true family, always fearing to fail as the Chosen One and feeling they don't fully trust him.

Hate: After seeing his mother die, Anakin comes close to the Dark Side for the first time, killing those responsible and their families.
The Jedi, as being the only family he has, are the only ones who could help him with his fear of losing his wife. Instead, they want him to ignore his fears and to let her go. Something he never learned to do. His desperation brings him to distrust them more, hoping that Chancellor Palpatine (who happens to be a Sithlord) has the answers he needs. Sadly he doesn't but he uses Anakins fear to become Darth Vader and make him kill all the Jedi. Thinking he doesn't have another chance to save Padme, he falls more and more into darkness. When Padme visits him and he sees Obi-Wan was with her on the ship and a sudden hatred towards Padme builds inside him, thinking she betrayed him. He chokes her, bringing her to her death and even years later he cannot forget this moment, knowing that she was not the one to hate, but he himself is.


Hope: Padme's last words before she dies already show that not everything is lost. She knows Anakin is not fully Darth Vader, she knows there is hope for him. Through their children, especially the son Luke Skywalker, this hope grows. Luke knows just as his mother that his father was just like him once, a Jedi. Seeing his son being tortured by the Emperor, Darth Vader remembers all that happened, everyone he failed to save or he killed himself. But he was able to save his son. By killing the Emperor and saving Luke Anakin Skywalker was reborn.
