Does Anybody Care-Part Two Birkenhead

Made In 1988,Part two of this documentary focused on Birkenhead North End looking at how people coped with Unempoyment and having no money during the last recession.I am actually one of the people in this film.
It looks too at the work of The Roundabout Centre and how it helps the community and how some had got involved with drugs.
I wonder what happened to some of these people featured here.

Hello,Please bear in mind that this documentary was made in 1989 so things have changed.The drugs culture has a more acceptable face regarding the use of them for recreational porposes.Heroin addiction in Birkenhead is as big a problem as any other town.Claughton Village has the same issues as other parts of Birkenhead and is no better than the North End.

I have fond memories of growing up in the River streets.. yes it had it's problems but it also had a stronger sense of community than many places. My flats in Lincoln Gardens has been a basketball court for several years now...it needs more re-generation, but it's on the right track.

just had the riots throughout most cities to greater or lesser degrees,more civil unrest to come i betting.Seems nothing much changed after all those years.Thatcher and the Tories in power back then crippling the working/non working classes...putting people out of work then calling them scroungers...country gone to the dogs and thats a fact unfortunately..until we stop immigration we heading right down the toilet..that not racism its common sense.

i lived in birkenhead in the 80s and there was junkies knocking on the door selling videos and all sorts everyday i feel sorry for them something should be done for this misery
