A house built in 1890 is being meticulously reduced to a pile of match sticks. This unfortunate house, uninhabited for over a year, was in a wretched state of disrepair, beyond hope of restoration. In its place will be a classically styled new house and re-landscaped property.

Part 1 shows demolition of the wing (lacking a basement); Part 2 shows demolition of the main house. The entire process took three hours.

July 2008 update: A new house was built about 40 feet from the location of the old one demolished in the video. It was built from modules in November 2007 and is similar in appearance to older houses in the same area--and in fact shares similar lines to the one that was demolished. Where the old house was is now a landscaped garden in progress, and work is underway to restore the previously overgrown road front. With two other new houses directly across the road, this area is hardly recognizable from what it was.

In passing--the location is North Hatley, QC, Canada.

  • It's kind of funny how the excavator went and cleaned the balcony off the front of the house before moving to the wing. :)

  • Like a predator suddenly swooping down on the weakest prey... one of my favourite parts!

  • Is that a bed at 4:30?

I like it how the door slams on the top floor as the roof is pulled down.

There is a strange use of green on the bottom floor.

  • There was a strange use of a lot in this house... It was in such incredibly bad shape that it was creepy to go in (we're talking plaster falling off walls, dry rot in the roof beams and complete absence of any septic system). The object being crushed at 4:30 is an oil tank previously used for heating oil. A new house was built in November 2007 at the location of the gravel driveway in the video.

  • From the look of the front the hoiuse doesn't look like it is sitting flat.

  • You could use the floors inside as a go-kart track--that's how slanted they were. There were even overlapping pieces of siding to fit the slope around (level) windows.
