BBC documentary featuring the dark reality of the "iconic" 1960s which is rarely
mentioned. It was a disastrous decade for Britain in terms of art, architecture, the commercialisation of culture, race relations, education and transport among many other things. Contributors include David Aaronovitch, Mike Phillips, Christine Odone, Terry Eagleton, Peter Hitchens and Peter Obourne.

  • Hahaha, I am not and was never a hippie. Actually, I hate hippies. And am NOT a communist. Why do you keep saying I'm a communist? My God! This documentary is wrong on so many levels. First and foremost, it's one sided. I have only one word to say: propaganda.

  • @1a1a2s3d4f5g I can agree it is one-sided, but it a deliberate antidote to the endless pop culture sixties-worship being regurgitated by baby boomers on a daily basis.

  • You don't seem to have grasped the essence of the documentary, that in the 60s irresponsibility was rebranded as "liberation" and we are living with the consequence of that today.

  • Good doc and wouldn't disagree with much except that the music only warranting less than a minute of the programme is because it doesn't fit their hypothesis. Yes, there were bad records and comedy records, but the decade that produced The Beatles, Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Cream, Janis Joplin, The Band, Floyd, Velvet Underground, Byrds, Doors et al.. can't be argued with musically. Overall though, Britain wasn't different in the 60's, only in isolated areas

  • @contrafib I agree. The makers were so intent to bash everything about the 60s that they did put in some weak material which undermined their good arguments elsewhere.

  • I don't suppose anyone knows where I can see more of that Yugoslav documentary at the beginning of this clip, or at least find out more about it??

  • @Uuqaakh

Sorry I don't but I'd be interested to see it myself.

  • I think that Yugoslavian documentary was less ridiculous than this one.

  • Epic fail to the guy with the grunge beard ",Eng"is a great singer!!

  • @burtonrules123 The 60s were the decade that caused unemployment. The 50s were crap too but since we had suffered through the war and were recovering, it was acceptable. The 60s just fucked everything up and the reason we're in a bad state now is because of what happened back then.

  • This movie is wonderful.

  • @1a1a2s3d4f5g It has a position. That does not make it propaganda.

  • No news here if you're on the left you typically like the 60's but if you're on the right you hate them. It's the same for the UK and US alike.

  • @burtonrules123 I am not a lefty dunkopf.

  • @burtonrules123

Wow. A so call Christian calling people name & making up lies about someone, especially when he didn't trash you. How can you call yourself a Christian but judge others when only God is suppose to do that?? You're a poor excuse of a Christian & isn't a true one. If you're a Christian, stop being a hate monger, 'cause Jesus didn't taught hate monger idiot like you to hate people. You can disagree without being mean & name calling people. Christian you aren't, Peter Tancordo.

  • @1a1a2s3d4f5g It's not propaganda , it's actually very truthful ..you must be a sixties moron
