It is flawed because, as President Obama confirmed last week, the United States won't put a price on carbon. Nor will the world's largest economies.

  • @nautica1972 There is a supply of brown coal in the Latrobe valley that will last 300 years using it at the current rate. You would require 42,500 wind turbines to generate base load electricity. Solar and Wind power are 40 times the cost of coal.

By the way... CO2 is not a pollutant! Of the 380 PPM, 5% is man made. That is 19 ppm. Australia's contribution is 1.2% That is 0.22 ppm. Or one quarter of a molecule!!!!

Not one of the big so called polluters is instituting a carbon tax. Why are we?

  • "The MOST BRAZEN purveyor of falsehoods" EVER to disgrace The Australian Parliament !!!

A dyed in the wool COMMUNIST LIAR = Julia Pinocchio Gillard , with the giraffe neck and hippopotamus ass !!!

  • @1972 Saying youd be put at a disadvantage cause your not getting envoled in a corrupt scheme is stupid

and not using fossil fuels cause they will run out i dont get that at all thats like saying im not ganna buy a phone cause one day id be able to just think and ill be talking to people or surfing the net besides russia and dubai both have enough oil for the world for the next 300 years anyways so your point is irrellivant

  • @ellicattube's, because once the carbon trading scheme becomes international the countries that are not part of it will be at a disadvantage. In any case should we just bury our heads in the sand and hope the environment fixes itself or should we do something and be a front runner in the burgeoning renewable energy sector which as a side benefit will not only save The environment but also create a new infinite industry. The fossil fuel energy industry is finite IT WILL RUN OUT!!!!!

  • @bushgayclown they can call it mickey mouse if you want, but if it feels like a tax, looks like a tax, well could it be just a tax?i will leave it to people with high IQ to figure it out but so far everyone call it tax and it must be for a reason, just like when they predicted that this scheme'' will work because by 2016 the major economies will have a scheme as well. its all wishful thinking, don't get me wrong im not against a carbon tax but its not the time when AU is in $200B debt

  • @nautica1972 So in your logic if we go the route of a carbon tax the other countries are automatically forced to follow us for some reason? Would you mind explaining just why they should do this,as most of them have made definite decisions not to go this route? When there's a a consenus to go this route then we should go into it not the other way around ,as carbon is currently selling for 5 cents per ton in the New York Stock Exchange.

  • Brent call it what you want its a tax charging 23 dollars a tonne. Dont try and over complicate the situation to try and sound smart

  • Hopefully this will give the ALP/Green scum something to think about. Was wondering if Julia G would run out with her tail between her legs like she normally does.

  • @nautica1972 "So What" you say. Well if those countries don't, then Australia's effort is completely futile. Completely ! Peel away all the bells and whistles that is the current policy and you will see the same could be achieved with the direct action component. The ALP/Green alliance is either very cleverly deceitful or as dumb as those that support them.

  • @bushgayclown The twisting is that it is a carbon tax. It is LIKE a tax, but it is not one. It's a fixed-price emissions trading scheme moving to a floating market priced emissions trading scheme. If Gillard has made any mistake in this debate it has been to accept the use of the term 'carbon tax'. It is not a "tax".
