Air Crash Investigation MayDay Fatal Distraction part 2 out of 5. On 29 December 1972, Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 to Miami International Airport, crashed in the Everglades because the crew was distracted by a faulty landing gear indicator light, and accidentally disengage the autopilot while trying to resolve the problem. Without autopilot, the plane no longer maintains a safe minimum altitude and the pilots do not realize, either visually (since it was a pitch black night) or through their instruments (because poor light display and distraction of burned out light bulb or landing gear mechanical failure) that they are too low until it is far too late. 101 people die. 75 survive, barely passing through the swamp and wreckage, full of deadly flames. And it is all due to a simple burned out cheap light bulb, crashing a modern jetliner.

  • @harpdude07 hey! imagine yourself in that situation. u'd be scared like shit and u wouldnt care about what u said. these are people's lives theyre talking about. there is no point joking.

  • how things are coming along ??????? dude the radar shows your plane has dropped from 2000 to 900 feet.... that would have saved the plane

  • Light a match? We're Americans... look at how we entertain ourselves... we tend to be made of stupid.

  • lol match start a fire?

actually i dont know what kind of fuel was on that plane but the fuel type the plane i work on takes is JP8 and it has a rediculously low flash point apparently you can throw a lit match into a puddle of it and it will go out, whats dangerous is the fumes =\ highly explosive

  • @dan993386 Well thanks to movies like Die Hard 2 people think any kind of fuel will burn with just looking at it.. blow with the power of a small nuclear bomb and burn so fast that can outrun a taking off Boeing 747....

thats hollywood for us... introducing bullshit to people since 1950s

  • 3 assholes that did this wow and the tower not saying noting come on y are they so dumb

  • 3 assholes that did this wow

  • @dan993386 she was talking about the fuel vapours in the air, which would ignite immediately.

  • @harpdude07 it's actually not that obvious. if there was that much fuel, dropping a match would not actually light the fuel because it would have no oxygen to burn and would actually just get put out by it, the size of the flame is not enough to set the fuel on fire if it was immersed in it
