@pocodfe he's so bad, he's good!!!!

@cynthiacher You are of course, correct, but when "Mama's Family" became a series, they had to rewrite the characters. Mama was a bitter old lady and you can't really create a show around that. They had to soften Mama a bit and make her more likable.
-
@cynthiacher - That wasn't all; McDowall was five years older than Burnett, unlike his Phillip character being Eunice's little brother. But that he spoke with his own British accent may have been a little cast in-joke - not unlike the matter of Vicki Lawrence, the youngest cast member, playing the mother of the 16-years-older Burnett. (Never mind what was noted about Carol identifying more with - and assigning for herself the role of - Eunice.)
-
The doctor seen at the very start was none other than series announcer Ernie Anderson.

"tell 'em I died."

Poor Ed. The only person in the universe who admires him is Mickey Hart.
And Eunice and Mama have to spoil that.

@pocodfe The man's a GENIUS. He's playing it this way on purpose. That was the basis of his huge comedic talent. The man is awesome!

which is why if you're going into major surgery, you might as well make your arrangements and have your will and things in order before you hit the O.R. How many times have we heard of people who never make it off the table cuz of heart PVC's caused by the anesthetic or something totally unpredictable?
Back to this hilarious sketch though, they really do a good job of freaking him out...if it was my relatives, I'd have kicked 'em out!!

I like how Tommy flubbed his line at the beginning! Very cute.

Most people are blessed w/ not knowing everything that can happen during and after operative procedures.
I used to be an OR Technician. When they say 'minor' surgery, they mean a routine procedure accompanied by local anesthetic. In most cases, patients survive minor surgery w/out complications.
The complications in surgery usually arise from how the patient responds to the anesthetic. Local anesthesia is less risky to use than general anesthesia.
Ya gotta love when "Jack's" wig comes off, and at how crummy an actor Tommy Smothers was in this...he couldn't remember hardly a line...lol. This skit is so funny, though.

See, I just thought he was playing it dumb like he did with his brother Dick in those Smothers Brothers acts.
