ANTHONY LANE SAID: "That was a revelation to me, reading that. Because there's a famous moment when I was reading that when it said: 'Cary Grant is the best and most important actor in the history of cinema.' I thought: Oh. Well, I know I love Cary Grant. And I've seen the movies and I watch them. But shouldn't I be thinking of Brando? Or, you know, Charles Laughton?"
A good guy.

Lane is the only critic I read and trust, and the majority of critics are all about thumbs up and down. I think somebody should criticize critics, just to show how little they know about movies.

Agree. Anthony is very funnny as well as being so erudite. I want to go back and reread 'Nobody's Perfect.'

Thanks Anthony for defining the role of the movie critic: 3.15: "the job is give the reader the sensory experience of what it was like that...like a holiday report." Brilliant. And thanks for uploading this video.

Anthony Lane is great writer, and so funny too!
Though David Thomson is very knowledgeable and I agree with him on many issues, some of his opinions are really ridiculous,Still, his dictionary of cinema is an important book for all film lovers.
