@bootleggingdafunk George would know the individual - Rick Vogel formerly of Fernald Point. My understanding is that Ricky owns a parcel at the Ranch now? I haven't seen Ricky in many years, but he's the one with the footage. Incidently, I also got to see George filming at Little Drakes, Jan 1970 (epic winter 69-70) perfect 6ft day on his mat. He must have scored some amazing footage. A wave knocked the film off on his rig and he came in. I asked him if he was "having fun". Maybe he remembers?
@colindominy In '68 a surf buddy of mine in Santa Barbara showed some home movies his dad took of GG at huge Rincon Indicator taken years earlier ('64??). My friend and George were the only ones out. The sets were pushing 10' with some 14'. GG was carving figure 8's on the massive walls - huge bottom turns, throwing buckets off the lip, crossing his wake, bouncing off monster soup. He was pointing to the future of surfing. That's how shredders surf on thrusters now.
This has surely gotta be the source of inspiration for Tom Morey's famous best-selling & much-copied later product. Don't get me wrong .. the boogie is amongst the best fun that one will ever have out there .. but GG is the all-time man .. the original & best. Like the caption says .. watch and learn ...
the awesome moment when i ask my dad if he knew george greenough and dad says yer i used to surf with him at duranbah ahahah
