this is just difficult for the sake of being difficult.

@squeegeebrown I've often thought the same way, but somehow the answer that taste is not debatable is not satisfying the need we need to debate the worth of things. In many respects, what Cage did was antithetical to musical practices hitherto, and the charge that his productions are "not music" is a natural consequence of his approach. Cage himself distinguished his own pieces from "music" in interviews and lectures. Cage also expects us to respond BEYOND our tastes. To what?

@tuberobotto Cage refused memory as a value in itself.

@smole133 We (people who enjoy noise) are everywhere.

I'll stick to Mozart, Bach, Weber and the company, after all. But it's interesting to see what music will look like in 20 years from now :)

@smole133 there's actually modes, arpeggios, and chordal progressions in this is all I'm saying which is harmony, just in discordance. different sounds are simply different timbres of the same note which makes it very interesting, you know?
some people would never know the quality of an amplified raindrop as far as musicianship would go or disregard its use altogether, some musicians have a passion for sound yeah so they include them in the music like Pink Floyd or Bjork did.
It's new ideas :D

If it's just a sound, then it's pure physics. But when we talk about harmony of sound, something that has a meaning, then it's music. Each way of blending those sounds is unique for each musical period, but it is still creating a complexity that we enjoy listening. Now, I know that there are also different tastes, but I wouldn't guarantee that a person who enjoys listening this kind of "music" is emotinally normal - with the premise that music is enjoyable, ofc.

@Shanktorsion many of us still are!
-
@smole133 mmmmm that gives me an idea :)

I just don't understand why it isn't enough to simply say you don't like something and leave it at that?!
-
@smole133 music doesn't have to be anything :p it's all perception, the easier to understand the easier it is for people to get into it. If you listened a bit closer you could probably distinguish the notes being played and how they relate, maybe even the reason why there's a use of a plethora of sounds
This comment has received too many negative votes show

@tjdreamer5
Criticizing somebody's writing with the phrase, "everybody might been written such a shit," is hilarious on more levels than you could presumably count to.
