A book review of Arundhati's Roy excellent novel, The God of Small Things. This book won the Booker Prize in 1997, and this new second edition has tweaked some passages for narrative clarity.
"Though you couldn’t see the river from the house anymore, like a seashell always has a sea-sense, the Ayemenem House still had a river-sense.
A rushing, rolling, fishswimming sense.
From the dining-room window where she stood, with the wind in her hair, Rahel could see the rain drum down on the rusted tin roof of what used to be their grandmother’s pickle factory Paradise Pickles & Preserves."
the way she introduced the remains of family business was telling the whole story itself
indeed a good review... good excerpts selection but your reading is too bad for this great book... you ruined it while reading it seems like you still enjoying yourself while reading the passages.... Its not your fault, the book is written that way.
second excerpt you should read in full from start... (Cont.)
Thanks for your nice book review. I recommend Arundhati Roy's first novel.
I also recommend reading her collection of political essays. "Power Politics" and "War Talk" (Cambridge: South End Press, 2002 and 2003)
Here watch?v=r-Vhs8ulNZQ you find a very good interview from March 22, 2010 on "Democracy Now":
Arundhati Roy on Obamas Wars, India, and Why Democracy is The Biggest Scam in the World (3 parts)
Stay human. Happy New Year!

You kinda got fizzled right there by the power of her prose, but I got what you were trying to say :)
