This video was collected with an IR camera and shows how a vascular network in a carbon-fiber composite can cool it. The composite ring section was in contact with a hot-plate held at 300°C. Water at room temperature was pumped through the vascular network at various flow rates. The vascular network was confined to the central area of the composite strip. The graph to the right of center shows the temperature along the white line that extends across the carbon-fiber strip.
