To China on a Shoestring - Caféscenen

The highway, just outside Oslo: Espen Aarsvold and Matias Carlsen is desperately trying to get the attention of the bypassing cars. Hungry and tired after sleeping outdoors for two nights, they are frustrated over the bypasser`s refusal to offet them a lift. They have a growing doubt whether the great dream will ever come true.

Espen and Matis are on the beginning of what is to become their life`s greatest journey - a hitchhiking trip that will take them through Europe, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan - all the way to China.

Ahead, they have 10 000 kilometers of dusty roads, numerous encounters with fantastic people, a great deal of happiness and success, and countless small and big disasters. In their backpacks they bring a videocamera, a guitar, some clothes, their passports, but otherwise nothing. Because for Espen and Matis, hitchhiking alone is not enough: They are determined to make the trip without bringing as much as a dollar.
