This was the seventh year for this small annual singing/demonstration. This year it coincided with the Belchertown fair, which was great. The town hall was the birthplace of Shays Rebellion and Pelham the hometown of Daniel Shays whom various pitchfork wielding mobs have adopted as their own. I have no political agenda here- it's just an old patriotic song by Stephen Jenks, 1800 and a slice of life in the Pioneer valley during town meeting/election season. My camera is slowly failing, hence the drop outs. I've started posting some videos first on my facebook page for various reasons including the fact that they look a lot better there.

  • Aylesbury--a favorite. I am glad you posted that one and glad to see many under 40 participating. Also had to laugh at the juxtaposition of the gravestone carvings and the shot of the fair booth selling calzones. Thanks.

  • Yeah, well, calzones and gravestones are the markers of our lives here. Them and Lenny Gamulka.

  • hey! the sugar maples have started to turn! great song, by the way. is it possible for you to get an omnidirectional condenser mic in the middle of the circle at some point? that's where i always liked the sound best.

  • I have an omnidirectional condenser, but it would have to go where we need to stand to lead (kind of works to hang it above the leader, but sounds kind of...not much better than a cheap camera off to the side). And yeah, it's sugar season!

  • A truly lovely film - loved the gravestones, it's moving just to see the building, and both these tunes are new to me!

Thank you very much. This and the othe shape-note videos strengthen this Englishman's resolve to visit the USA and join in...
