@brokensword008nmi: just an additional comment. You mention Callas as your entrance point to opera. Mine was (aside from Mozart operas) Enrico Caruso. In those miserable, primitve recordings - many more than 100 years old - I heard and experienced the beauty of a soul that gave his whole heart in his singing. Hardly any singing lesson, hardly any formal education. None the less this "primitive, Neapolitan peasant" created the modern tenor. And Abdul Candao reminds me of him.

@brokensword008nmi: no, we are not alone ! In my opinion art is all about subjective experience. And fortunately neither you or I have bother about the technique since we don't know anything about it!
He touches my heart with his empathy and that's all I have to know/experience. His German is pretty good, though. Best, Tom

@tomfroekjaer So I'm not alone, we're not alone.

Technically, i know nothing about singing techniques, opera, etc... But somehow I'm glad about it. If i did know, everytime i listen to an aria, my mind would look for perfection, rather than let my soul enjoy the passion there is in a performance like this.
I'm not an opera person, but it's the technical imperfection (as purists and experts call it) of Maria Callas that brought my soul into the opera world. This might not be the perfect rendition, but it somehow connects to me.
