  • did you make the release mechanism yourself? I was wondering were i could find an elbow piece and hinge to recreate the mechanism Also what kind of toy would i find a similar gearbox inside? im having trouble finding a similar gearbox

  • @cancer1907

Yes I made the release thingy myself. I don't remember where I got the gearbox. No one told me where to get it, I just found it in some toy from a thrift store. Thrift stores are great places to find hackable toys and stuff...

  • The relay is a common part available from most auto parts stores. The switches are just micro switches from Radio shack.

If you go on the flickr website and search for "ball launcher schematic" you'll find a schematic and some other pics. Sorry I can't post links in the comments.

  • what kind of release mechanism did u used?

  • @cancer1907

At 2:10 I show a close up of the mechanism that I made by hand. It's just a right angle piece of metal with a sort of tooth sticking up off it that catches the "sled".

  • What did you use for guide rails?

  • Drawer slides and for the little wheels on the sled I used sliding shower door wheels. Both avaiable from any hardware store.

  • Really great. So did Sophie ever manage to learn how to drop the ball in the right place?

  • That's awesome man! :P

  • Where did you get the relay from? and what kind of switches did you use? Do you have a schematic circuit diagram for your slingshot?

  • Great Job! I'm looking at making one of these for my parents who are in their 70's... they have a Boston Terrier that is constantly bugging them to throw a ball... this is going to save them some frustration.
