Metaphor and Transformation

The word 'metaphor' has become a bit meaningless for me recently, mainly because I've been overusing it and applying it in too many situations. I'm trying to refind it here by interpreting it as the name we give to one of a number of transformations that take place that collectively produce experience/thought/cognition/whatever. I don't have any support for these ideas, so don't take them too seriously, just a feeling that we are constantly catching the world in a moment of change, and that catching itself it the change (or something).
