Neato XV-11 with New Firmware - maiden voyage

I just bought this Neato XV-11 vacuum today, having waited until the promised new firmware was released. Having owned several Roomba vacuums spanning several generations, I was immediately impressed by how well the Neato mapped out its surroundings and did an admirable job cleaning.

In some ways, I felt it was not the equal of the Roomba, but that could also have been attributed to the fact that people and dogs were present during the cleaning. That's not normally the case during scheduled cleanings.

Neato has just announced a firmware update (v2.4) for the Neato.  It

supposedly has even better navigation. I'm waiting to make sure it's

stable before I update mine, but so far, users seem to think it's pretty

good.

I don't think the robot was confused by the opening... it just had difficulty turning the corner while also trying to adjust for the height differential between the two rooms.

I ended up placing a magnetic strip across this doorway to block it from attempting to use this opening. This makes life easier on the Neato while reducing the time it takes to vacuum the house (by making the mapping more simple).

The software is version 2.0.14418 and the LDS is version 2.6.14138

@JEfromCanada :I have the Neato for almost three months now and you are right, when one watch this video without knowing Neato, he might think it is confused (it was my case) but is not, it is just the way it plans its cleaning.

Sometimes when I watch it I think it missed a spot but it did not, after a while it comes back and clean it :)

This robot is amazing! I think the first doorway confuses it since the robot is not horizontal, the lazer may map some unexisting walls or the robot might moves in its internal map...
