Larry now lives in Reno, NV & tours Europe. He showed up at the Benifet for the Late U. Utah (Bruce) Phillips, Famous Hobo Folk Singer, was passed away about the same time as Bo Diddley, I was playing regular in Berkeley, and my Life Style was a HOBO FREIGHT TRAIN RIDING GUITARIST, but I remember being Green with Envy at how Fast Larry Played! In 1963 I finally met a former Texas Playboys guitarist who Got My Confidence Strong! Tommy Clinton. But at 61 I am still Awed by the Collins Kids!
The Collins Kids were true "American Idols," masters of their instruments with a supreme self-confidence that would never allow for subjecting their talents to the whims of a toll-free telethon.
By contrast, that brat pack of mediocrity on that insipid FOX television show are just "Idle Americans" who've yet to face up to the fact their collectrive destiny involves hairnets and scooping French fries.
And the musical abilities of this duo, by far, extends beyond the capacity for singing bland, generic love ballads written by song doctors. This is why the Kellie Clarksons and Adam Lamberts of the world will never be voted in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, among the "real deal" of talent that includes Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, The Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield, and David Bowie.
After watching this video of The Collins Kids, one realizes how absolutely lame, by comparison, most of the so-called "American Idols" of today really are!
Genuine musical talent isn't determined by popular voting for applicants among a cattle call.. One is born with and nurtures it through years of rehearsal and playing gigs at clubs and small venues, then signed by an artist & repertoire agent from a record company, if one is lucky..
i agree never heard of them before YT in australia we only got mainsteam stuff if radio stations did not play it we did not hear it they freak me out totally thanks to all posters- dave
My mind is blown! With all the talent and energy they had it's remarkable that they aren't better known. I knew about Lorrie because she and Ricky Nelson were briefly an item. And Larry, at what? 12 or 13? He's blowing all the top rock guitarists of that era away! When he's with Joe Maphis (Ricky's lead player before James Burton) on some other videos here he's just smokin'!!! They never really crossed over to pop success for some reason. A real mystery.
these 2 kids are tops were are they now ,and i never heard of them before i saw them on you tube , im 54 but i cant remember them having a top 10 or a hit record. please could you tell me more tony in australia thanks
